A portrait of Abraham Lincolntoday took an Indianapolis civil warveteran back through the years to ahot summer day when a youngNortherner, one of Lincolns boysin blue, stood before the Presidentand received commendation for hisvalor on the battle front. From a wealth of war experiences,the veteran, Nathan A. Cadwalla-der, who celebrated his ninety-ninth birthday Thursday, just twodays before the national observanceof Lincolns birth, recalled his ac-quaintanceship with the Emanci-pator for friends gathered at hishome, 5226 Broadway. After giving the days password,Potomac River, to the guard, I was ushered into the office of the Pres-ident, Cadwallader explained. Mr. Lincoln, my President, Isaid when I shook hands with him,youre the first man I ever votedfor. I can tell you are one of myboys, the President answered, be-cause you wear the same kind ofcloths I do. Lincoln then ex-pressed his apprecia
