In a, few days I received an invitation tocall at Tommys house on a certain e^ ening.I said nothing toi anyone as to where I wasgoing, but started out to find the address.After a shoirt walk I came to a fine resi-dence, surrounded by ample grounds, beau-tifully lighted and decorated with Chineselanterns, etc., and the word Welcomeover the main entrance. I looked at theNo., and said Yes, this is the place. Irang the bell; a, colored man servant openedthe door, when some one said, Come rightin. There was Tommy in full eveningdress. I thought he must be the head ser-vant—in fact I hardly knew how to size upthe situation. He then called his wife andafter an introduction he said, I bid youwelcome to all that is here; it is mine, andI got my first start in selling pies in Camptlirough your help in getting me the pass.

MRS. ANNIE P. ERVING, (Formerly Cilia Zerbe), PAST LADY COMMANDER MARY C. LAWTON GAR RISON NO. 1901. KEMINISCENCES OF AN ARMY NURSE. < LINT. It is to the children of the public schoolsof 1861-64 that we owe a; debt of gratitudefor the lint picked by their little hands.Very many useful things were sent by themto the Hospital, and many of the packagescontained little notes, bringing good cheerto many an invalid boy in blue. Followingare samples of some of the notes sent: Ilove the soldier boys; ^^ I hope you Avill getwell; I will pray f or you. One littlegirl wrote, If you would like to have mylittle kitten, and will send me 3 our name Iwill send it to you; I love it; it is very play-ful and will keep you company in the hos-pital. Sometimes these notes fell into thehands of fathers who had little ones athome, and tears would spring to their eyesas they thought of them, and they wouldoften exclaim, God bless the little chil-dren. The girls wer^e e\er on the alert, What would we e^^er
