This willbe done at an early date, and when this hasbeen done, of course, the expense and labor tothe sanitary department, both in the towns andalong the route of the canal, will be much re-duced and simplified. One scheme of water-supply that strikes me very favorably, and thatseveral of the engineers on the commission ex-press themselves as favoring, is that of usingthe head waters of the Chagres River.
