If Vice-President Hobart had notPhiladelphia died in office, the National RepublicanConvention. Qonvention at Philadelphia last monthwould .have been by far the most unanimous andmost uneventful in the history of either greatparty since the Republicans nominated their firstPresident at Philadelphia in 185G. The entireparty had acquiesced in the opinion that the Mc-Kinley administration ought to be given anotherfour years lease of power. If Mr. Hobart hadlived, his renomination for the Vice-Presidencywould have been as unquestioned as Mr. McKin-leys for the first place on the ticket.
