English: Holland transitional percussion cap revolver with case and accessories, circa 1850s transitional percussion cap; 6 shot; .45 inch calibre; rifled; foliate engraving on lock, trigger guard, and pistol grip tang; wooden one-piece grips, finely chequered; silver escutcheon on wrist of pistol grip, unmarked; butt trap for percussion caps case- wooden case; lined with green baize; with eight compartments (one is lidded); maker's label printed on paper inside lid with image of the Royal Arms; space for metal plaque on top of lid, now missing accessories- ramrod, nipple wrench; cleaning jag; powder flask markings- on centre of underside of barrel and chambers of cylinder- London proof and view marks top of barrel- H. Notes

Holland transitional percussion cap revolver, circa 1850 Possibly belonged to Sir Carrick Robertson. Robertson, born (1879) and educated in Scotland, came to New Zealand in 1906. He was renowned as a surgeon, and was also involved with the Northern Club, Auckland, and was council member and president (1936-37) of the Auckland Institute and Museum. Died 1963.
