Notes Carved Lee Enfield Mk 1 (Long Tom) rifle and bayonet Rifle carved by Trooper James Madill- SOUTH AFRICA 1901-2 - BOER WAR - NEW ZEALAND - VI - TROOPER MADILL No 3263 James Madill, farmer of Tuakau, enlisted with the 6th New Zealand Mounted Rifles on 15th January 19012 and embarked aboard the Cornwall on 30th January. He returned to New Zealand via Australia on the Cornwall and Monowai, and was discharged having completed 1 year 27 days' service. d.24.6.1959, Auckland). Occupation- Farmer; next of He was awarded the Queen's South Africa Medal with clasps for Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, SA1, SA2. He died in Auckland in 1959.
