It is a iourney of only thirty-five miles, butthe mail train takes over two hours to accomplish it. Inthe afternoon we visited the Agra jail. Everything is so clean, so comfortable, and so well arranged,that were I an Indian, I feel confident I should commitsome fearful crime, to escape from my dirty native villageinto such a comparative Paradise of cleanly comfort. The food is prepared by Brahmin prisoners. No castecan object to their cooking, and the enormous chappatiesthey were baking looked as appetising as I am sure theyare indigestible.
