Roamn trumpet brooch: Devolved type, group B |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy bow brooch. A devolved trumpet type (group B). At the back of the head are two lugs housing the axis bar for the sprung pin. The coils and chord of the spring are still present.. At the top of the head is the integral chain loop with a narrow plate at the base. The plate is decorated with two horizontal grooves. The head is trumpet shaped and tapers into the D sectioned upper part of the bow. At the mid point of the bow is an expanded knop decorated with waisted mouldings. The moldings comprise a simple ridge top and bottom with two bands of pyramid shaped knops between (four knops to each band.) From this tapers the triangular sectioned leg of the bow. At the base is a conical foot with an oval base. Behind the leg is a lyre-shaped hooked catchplate. Date: Roman - 2nd century |
