There are ten suchcolumns, in addition to thepilasters. The bases of thecolumns are of white marble,and have the enrichmentsgilded. In the decoration ofthe room gilding plays a veryimportant part. The capitalsof the columns, the neckingbeneath, and the enrichmentsof the frieze are all richlygilded, while the antiquefigures over are covered en-tirely with gold. In theceiling, too, gilding was verylargely used, and in two largepanels of military emblemsand arms. These panels are %t ; ..
