ON THE WESTERN BUTTRESS OF LLlWEDD THE WESTERN BUTTRESS 249 Like that from some other heights of mediumelevation, this is particularly fine from Lliwedd. It was a perfect evening. In a westerly direction across Cwm y Llan,Moel Hebog stood up grandly in the eveninglight with yr Aran slightly to the right. Furtherround, the Rivals were silhouetted against agolden mass of shimmering sea, floating on which,and looking as if suspended in the surroundingglow, we could see through our glasses a home-ward-hound sailing vessel. Northward, the gold gradually joaled to grey,and filmy evening clouds came curling lightlyover the Beddgelert ridge of Snowdon. YWyddfa itself looked like a black, massive wedgecut in the luminous sky, and was renderedthe more striking by comparison with the fairlylevel and rounded rid^e of y Ddvsurl. Theeffect looking into Cwm Dyli down the steepface Ave had just ascended, with the black, stillwaters of Llyn Llydaw, quite made one shudder,so vivid was the change from t
