Title
Roman : Mount
Description
English: TREASURE CASE : 2013 T99.

This Roman base silver denarius has been abraded flat on its reverse leaving just the obverse (front) displaying a beardless effigy of Caracalla as Augustus (thus dating to the joint reign of Severus and Caracalla, AD 198-209). It has been fitted within a silver mount decorated with eight evenly-spaced circumferential ribs. There does not seem to be any evidence as to whether it formed a brooch, pendant or ring bezel.

Age and Metal Content
The composition of Roman silver coinage produced about AD 200 was baser than had been produced in previous centuries, being around half silver by content - but this is comfortably above the Treasure Act threshold of 10%. For objects to be considered treasure by the Act they must be of an antiquity greater than 300 years.
