Title |
Roman : Samian vessel |
||
Description |
English: A body sherd from a Roman Samian ware bowl, with relief decoration. Dragendorff type 37, probably 2nd century from southern Gaul. The fragment is slightly abraded.
A row of double bordered ovolo with ‘tongues centrally placed’ can still be seen (only three complete ovolo’s survive). Each tongue terminates with a small rosette, their axis being vertical. Below the ovolo there is a pelleted boarder. The design below features a horse and rider, the rider holds a sword. |
