Title
Roman Coin: As of Claudius
Description
English: An early Roman copper alloy coin, probably an as of Claudius I (AD 41-54). The coin is very worn, and the obverse bust is not discernible, but the reverse features a single standing figure facing right, holding a spear; probably Minerva. The obverse inscription is invisible, but the reverse reads S [C] in the fields, and has no legend. The rendering of Minerva is rather rough, so this may be a contemporary copy, but the coin is too worn to be certain.
