Title
Roman Dragonesque Brooch
Description
English: One terminal and part of the body of a copper alloy Roman brooch of the Dragonesque type, dating from 75 - 175 AD. The body would have been composed of two oval shapes with a relief trumpet coil motif on each (one is missing). There is a roughly circular hole between the ear and the body, forming a neck on one side. The ear has a raised ridge. The head has a raised pellet 'eye' and the chin is joined to the body. The pin, other terminal and part of the body are missing. The brooch has a mid green patina. For a similar example see SWYOR-EE4132.
