Roman Dragonesque Brooch
Description
English: An incomplete, copper alloy Roman brooch of Dragonesque type, dating from AD 75 - 175. The remaining portion consists of the central body only. Both zoomorphic heads are missing. The body is decorated with enamelled cells and a central raised boss, but is too corroded to allow the pattern to be discerned. There are traces of blue and possibly red enamel surviving. The reverse is slightly concave. The metal has a grey green patina. The brooch is 36.7mm long, 15.7mm wide and 5.5mm thick. it weighs 7.67gm.
