Title |
Roman Dragonesque brooch |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete cast copper-alloy Roman dragonesque brooch. The s-shaped plate is slightly twisted at the head and foot. In the centre and widest part of the plate is an oval convex cell with a knob at the pointed ends which may have once contained a stone or gem. The symmetrical design on either side of the central cell is quite worn, However a triangular cell with blue enamel is visible on one side with some traces of smaller red enamel circles around it. The foot and head are decorated with the same design, but again this is quite worn. Both have a ring and dot pattern with a blue enamel centre and red around the edge. The triangular terminals of the head and foot have two triangles stained red for the missing enamel. The pin is missing. The surviving length is 50.9mm, the width is 23.2mm and the weight is 10.66g. |
