Title
Roman Dragonesque brooch
Description
English: Roman Dragonesque brooch made from copper alloy and dating to the 2nd century. The brooch is quite worn and has no evidence of decoration. The brooch is ‘S’ shaped and would have originally had a zoomorphic terminal at each end, however, only one of these is still present and is very worn. A small section of the pin remains intact and is formed from a separate flattened piece of copper alloy wrapped around the thin section of the brooch. The body of the brooch is fairly thin and is slightly concave on the reverse. The brooch has some evidence of gilding along one edge. The brooch weighs 3.18g and measures 44mm in length and 23mm in width.
