Title
Roman brick
Description
English: A large fragment of fired clay brick or floor tile of Roman date. The surviving fragment is roughly rectangular in form, rectangular in section, terminating in old breaks on two sides. It has been burnt or at least exposed to high termperatures resulting in it turning a red/purple colour, the fabric being very hard and with some large gritty inclusions. On the exterior surface is the remains of fingered decoration formed from three curving grooves. This fragment measures 180mm in length, 156mm in width, 38.77mm in thickness and 1584g in weight. This is probably a fragment of Roman brick or floor tile rather than roof tile or similar. It is of Roman date, c.43-410 AD.
