Title
Roman copper alloy cosmetic mortar
Description
English: Cast copper alloy Romano-British cosmetic mortar. The mortar is 'boat-shaped', being 'V'-shaped in cross-section and elongated. There is an integral loop at one end. The external walls are decorated with a deep groove running beneath the rim and also just above the base on either side. The interior is smooth and has a light brown patination, which is distinctly different to the darker brown-red patination on the exterior. The mortar is damaged and is now buckled in the centre. The broken area around it is well patinated and corroded.
