Title
Roman copper alloy plate boat-shaped brooch
Description
English: A Roman copper alloy plate brooch dating 43-410AD. The brooch is cast in the form of a stylised boat with a curving prow and a representation of oars or an anchor. On the reverse are twin lugs and an axis bar to secure the pin, which is still present, and the catchplate.

It is a very unusual type but there is a close parallel in Ettlinger's corpus of Roman brooches from Switzerland. The form is similar, however the prow and passengers are different.

Dimensions: length: 34.75mm; width: 21.71mm; thickness: 14.80mm; weight: 6.87g.
