Roman dragonesque brooch
Description
English: Copper alloy with blue, yellow and red enamel Brooch fragment. Cast Dragonesque Brooch with a body of reverse S form. The head has an expanded nostril and broad rounded ears. The body bears a series of three enamelled panels with yellow enamelled ovals surrounded by 8 red enamelled triangles and two alternating red and blue enamelled triangles above and below with further red triangles around the dragon ears with eyes demarcated by round blue panels for the eyes underscored by red enamel.

Dragonesque brooches are an insular type which appear to have been manufactured in the Yorkshire area. Similar on the database to DUR-B44368, DUR-F7E453 and SWYOR-638528. The length is 54mm, the width is 19mm thickness 4mm and the weight 5.89g.
