Title
Roman parchment ware dish
Description
English: A small assemblage of mid to late Roman pottery comprising:

a) a fragment of a Samian Curle IIc vessel dating to the late first or second century AD dating to the third or fourth centuries. A small part of the hemispherical wall with a flange a short way below the rim survives. The flange is decorated with trailing leaves in barbotine. b) A large sherd of a Oxford parchment ware dish or bowl. There is a groove running along the outer edge of the rim. The inner surface of the bowl possesses dark red painted decoration in the form of a swirl and circumferential band. The fabric is cream and smooth. c) The neck and mouth of a flagon, probably dating to the second century AD. The neck is cylindrical, there is one moulding below a flaring mouth. A stub/scar is visible where the one D sectioned handle would have extended. d) A large fragment of a white ware mortarium.

e) A small rim sherd from a grey ware vessel with a flanged rim. The rim is decorated with two grooves.
