Title
Roman pot. Illustrated by: Dom Andrews.
Description
English: Two joining sherds representing half of an undecorated samian ware cup of Form 27. Light brownish/red slip and the fabric is pinkish with a 'soapy' texture, which is smooth to the touch. The beaded rim has a small circular out-turned lip, which has been defined by a double groove underneath it. It would have had a diameter of approximately 130mm. The body has two strong curves. The foot ring would have been added to the cup once it had come out of the original mould. It weighs 48.2g. The The sherds are relatively un-worn and the breaks look fresh and un-abraded. Much of the vessels original surface has been lost. The cup post-dates AD 75. Parallels can be seen from Fishbourne in Cunliffe, 1971, 184-7, No. 50.1-7.
