Title
Roman steelyard weight
Description
English: An incomplete cast lead steelyard weight with iron attachments, probably dating to the Roman period, between AD 43 – 410 (length: 43.5mm; diameter: 31.5mm; weight: 133.9g).

The weight is bi-conical in shape with a circular section. At the top of the artefact where the bi-conical tip is unevenly rounded, there are the stumped remains of a probable iron loop protruding outwards. At the opposing base end of the bi-conical weight, there is another corroded square-sectioned iron protrusion (length of protrusion: 10mm; width/ thickness of protrusion: 7.5mm). The iron fitting appears to continue through the centre of the weight, which may terminate with the remains of an iron hook at the base, from which the item being weighed would have hung. Overall, the artefact is in a worn and poor condition.
