Description
English: A decorated rim sherd of Roman samian ware. The rim is beaded. There are two incised lines around the body of the vessel 23.56mm and 26.57mm below the rim. Beneath this point the wall of the vessel thickens detailed decoration has been applied. There is a line of rouletted decoration, beneath is a beaded border (similar to NARC-D3DC91 & LIN-4900E7), and then a beaded medallion (similar to WILT-0D4BS4) with an indistinguishable feature within. The fabric is hard, fine and silty. The fabric is orange in colour in places is the remains of a glossy orange slip. The sherd has a diameter of 100mm is 69.40mm in length, is 6.65mm thick and weighs 30.08g. It may be a piece of a decorated bowl, Dragendorff 37, which dates to c.70-230 AD (<a href="http://potsherd.net/atlas/types/sigillata/gallery/class">http://potsherd.net/atlas/types/sigillata/gallery/class</a>).
