Title
Roman zoomorphic plate brooch
Description
English: A copper alloy Roman zoomorphic plate brooch in the form of a crouching hare and dating from the second century AD. There are three recessed cells for enamel on the body, and a ring cell for the eye. None of the enamelling survives, but there are traces of tinning on the reserve metal surrounding the cells. The terminals of the front legs are missing. On the reverse is a double pin lug, copper alloy axis bar and sprung pin, and a well preserved catchplate. The pin is also complete.
