Among the other objects of interest may be placed the Bonsecours Market, the Govern-ment House, Hotel Dieu Hospital, McGill College, and various other institutions of learning, thediflFerent nunneries, the statue of Her Majesty, Nelsons Monument, the Young Mens Christ-ian Association Building, Mount Royal Cemetery, and the Wonderful Reservoirs, excavatedout of solid rock, located 206 feet above the river and twenty-five feet deep. UEBEC, founded in 1608, is one ofthe oldest cities in America, andalso one of the most interesting.In population and maritime commerceit is third among the chief cities ofCanada, ranking next after Montrealand Toronto. The form of the city isnearly a triangle, the Plains of Abrahamforming the base, and the Rivers St.Lawrence and St. Charles the sides.The city is divided into two parts,known as the upper town and the lowertown. The upper town is strongly forti-fied, and includes within its limits thecitadel of Cape Diamond, which coversthe entire summit of the promontory andembraces an area of more than fortyacres.
