Description |
English: Sailing through young ice Septr 1824 Monochrome engraving showing the Fury, a British bomb vessel, and the Hecla. Opposite page 16 in Parry's account of his third voyage "for the discovery of a N/W passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific performed in the year 1824 and 1825 in the HMS Hecla and Fury under the orders of Captain William Parry RN, FRS..." Hoppner was Captain of the Fury. Both ships are shown much impeded by young ice in September 1824, which formed exceptionally early that year, and Parry and Hoppner decided to take up winter stations in Port Bowen. |
