Pumping facilities of thirty-four milliongallons daily were installed at Ravenswood.Wherever necessary Spring Valley WaterCompany gave the City, without charge, aright of way for this Hetch Hetchy line. The last link in this Bay Division of theHetch Hetchy conduit was completed inMay, 1926, and it was immediately turnedover to Spring Valley Water Company foruse, the Company having already completedits work on the Calaveras Reservoir, theNiles Aqueduct, the Niles Reservoir, andthe pipe-line from Niles to Irvington. There-upon water from the Calaveras Reservoirbegan flowing through the Spring Valley andCity units, thus linked together, into CrystalSprings Reservoir, and has been so flowingever since. The Hetch Hetchy line to Crystal Springs Reservoir tunnels the hills west of Redwood City, and the water, hidden from the light of day during all its long journey from Sunol, finally comes out of the Pulgas Tunnel to flow thus for a brief space before plunging into Crystal Springs Lake ice in San Francisco, Spring Valley WaterCompany, within the same period, executedseveral projects of the first importance. Having purchased a parcel of land on thenortheast slope of Mt. Davidson, the Com-pany constructed there the Stanford HeightsReservoir with a capacity of five million gal-lons. The plans were so drawn that the res-ervoir could be doubled in size when theneed arose. This foresight has been morethan justified, for the need of doubling thecapacity of Stanford Heights has come muchearlier than was anticipated.
