Title |
Sceat : Eadberht |
||
Description |
English: A complete silver sceat, Kings of Northumbria, Eadberht. Animal right with motifs above and below. AD 737-758.
Pirie, p 78, no 2. This coin has a sub-circular indentation at 12 O'clock; this may indicate an attempt at reuse of the object and is a possible attempt at perforation. However after some discussion with central unit, due to the lack of an effective perforation or clear evidence of an intentional attempt to perforate, this object has not been classified as a pierced coin. It is also possible, and likely, that this indentation may represent test pecking to test the quality of the silver in the Viking bullion economy. |
