Description
English: Silver sceatta. Series R1 (1). Issued AD 710 - 765. Series R are an East Anglian continuation of Series C, with Roman influences. They were probably produced under the auspices of King Aldwulf and his son King Aelfwald. Mints were likely to have been at Ipswich, Thetford and Norfolk (Reference: Abrahamson. T; Sceattas. Page 25).

Obverse: Beaded standard enclosing TOTII. Tufa above containing trefoil of pellets. Diagonal at each corner. A symbol either side and cross pattee below.

Reverse: radiate bust right with runic EPA before and inverted A and T behind.
