Title |
Severus Alexander |
||
Description |
English: A silver denarius of Severus Alexander dating to the period AD 222 to 228 (Reece period 11). SALVS AVGVSTI reverse type depicting Salus standing right holding snake. Mint of Rome. RIC IV, Pt II, p. 84, no. 176. There is a crescental cut out on the circumference of the coin. This does not appear to be a worn piercing for suspension and several other coins in the deposit also have this crescental cut-out, suggesting that it may be ritual in nature. |
