Description
English: Cast copper-alloy curved tubular spout, probably from a ewer but just possibly from a hanging laver (a bowl with a curved tubular spout on either side). The cross-section is lozenge-shaped externally (18 x 16 mm) with the corners cut off, and oval internally. Only the pouring end survives (slightly worn break), which has decoration originally derived from an animal's head. The section changes from lozengiform to circular, and at the junction the upper half has a double moulding, low and angular behind and larger and rounded in front. This has developed from the ears of an animal, but is now unrecognisable as such. The very end has been slightly damaged and/or worn. Surviving length as curved, 53 mm. Animal-head tubular spouts are known from the 14th and 15th centuries.
