Title |
sherd (exterior) |
||
Description |
English: Pottery body sherd made of gabbroic clay that weathers over the gabbro outcrop on the Lizard in Cornwall. The exterior and interior of the sherd have depressions which may have been caused by the erosion of larger inclusions from the matrix rather than being deliberate impressions. The fabric has inclusions of pale felspars and dark augite and is orangey-brown on the exterior and mid-brown on the interior of the sherd. This type of fabric is seen in Grooved Ware vessels, dating from c.2900-2400 BC (Henrietta Quinnell, forthcoming). |
