Title
Single view of a late Medieval thimble.
Description
English: The object is a thimble which dates to the late Medieval period. Holmes illustrates a similar shaped thimble and dates it to the 15th to mid 16th centuries. It is uncertain whether the copper alloy has been manufactured by casting or stamping.

The thimble has been squashed, and the upper portion is missing, therefore it is uncertain whether it was a complete thimble or a sewing ring. however it is more likely to be a thimble withthe depth of the walls. The rim is unthickened with no decoration. The sides, in its squashed state are straign and leaning towards each other. The upper portion of the thimble is missing, it appears to have been torn, but this has not occurred recently. The indentations are a conical shaped cells laid out in rows. Some of the indentations are now holes.

The surface ofthe thimble is corroded and poor. Only one trace of a mid green patina is visible.

The thimble measures 18.1mm tall and 29mm wide. It weighs 3.31g.
