Lik de flesta karikatyrtecknare led han af att be-höfva producera så mycket. Man skrattade åt hans litografier,men man begrep ej att det var konst, Hans verk återkalla iminnet de tider, då man njöt af Monniers M. Prudhomme, äfventecknad af Daumier, och då svindlartypen och storskojaren hetteRobert Macaire och spelades af den omtyckte aktören FrédéricLemaitre (bild 141). En oändlighet af variationer öfver dennefinansielle skälm har ritats af Daumier, hvilken ibland skämtade 176
