English: U.S. Army Spc. Jessica Rivera-Mendoza, a member of 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team’s mild traumatic brain injury clinic, from New Castle, Del., and U.S. Army Capt. Erik Johnson, an occupational therapist at the mTBI clinic, from Little Rock, Ark., are among the first to help setup and staff Afghanistan’s first mTBI clinic, located at Forward Operating Base Shank in June of this year. The clinic provides treatments and diagnoses of soldiers who may have suffered from mTBI injuries due to improvised explosive device explosions. Previously, mTBI patients had to receive medical treatment out of theater and lost of a lot of time recovering while trying to return to duty. |
