ities of this material, either as slabs or as the finished product. As an instance, the average number of square feet of structural slatewhich is constantly stored and ready for shipment is 250,000 square feet. THE STRUCTURAL SLATE COMPANY has thus been able toameliorate the formerly serious labor problems of the slate quarries byenabling production to be carried on continuously throughout the year, instead of each individual quarry employing men from time to time asorders have been received. This has had the natural and to be desiredresult that all of the quarries have been able to reduce the days of idlenessand so keep their better trained mechanics interested sufficiently in theirwork to avoid the lure of better jobs at higher pay in other trades. Aconsequent economy in production and increase in skill in assembling hasbeen another immediate benefit, for skilled labor, assured of continuousemployment, no longer has to turn its efforts to other channels. 4 THE STRUCTURAL SLATE COMPANY
