Title
Small cannon ball of probable post-medieval (English Civil War) date (1600-1700AD)
Description
English: Small cannon ball of probable post-medieval (English Civil War) date (1600-1700AD)

The cannonball is spherical with a diameter of 44.1mm. It weighs 351 grams (12.25 ozs). It has been made in iron which has been presumably cast. There is a small linear ridge running around part of the ball, which might be the remains of the casting flange.

The ball is of a mid-brown orange colour with small areas of slight flaking and active corrosion. The cannon ball is in fairly good condition and with no obvious dents or grazes which might suggest use. The size is slightly odd and may have been made for a hand-held cannon (possibly a dragon or serpentine) rather than for a standard sized cannon.
