The paper brings out some important facts regarding the relation ofthe knots above ground to certain forms of hairy-root, and contains advice tonurserj^men as to how to avoid the trouble. On the apple tree this disease appears most often on the trunk andlarger limbs (fig. 1), but in a number of instances it has been found (Cir. 3) SOME STEM TUMOES OK KNOTS ON APPLE AND QUINCE TREEt affectino; the twigs and smaller limbs (fig. 3). A good example of the disease as found on all parts of the tree occurs on a Charlamoffapple tree in the experimental orchard of the Arkansas AgriculturalExperiment Station, Faj^etteville, Ark.
