Description
English: Cmdr. Dale W. Maxey (center), commanding officer of guided-missile frigate USS Kauffman (FFG 59) speaks with Cmdr. Harry Schmidt (left), commanding officer of Coast Guard cutter USCGC Diligence (WMEC 616) and Lt. Colin Macinnes and Lt. Michael Carroll also from Diligence aboard Kauffman. Both ships will be part of the Gulf of Mexico Exercise (GOMEX) a Mexican-hosted naval exercise. Kauffman is on a four-month deployment to Latin America and the Caribbean as part of Southern Seas 2009 in support of US SOUTHCOM Partnership of the Americas. Southern Seas is a deployment that focuses on conducting exercises, military to military engagements, and theater security cooperation engagements to enhance relationships with Partner Nations in the Region.
