Description
English: LAKE MICHIGAN - The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw places a bouy in Lake Michigan to mark a navigational channel March 29, 2012, during the cutter's first buoy-tending mission of the 2012 shipping season. Roughly half of the aids to navigation throughout the Great Lakes region are taken out of service during the winter months during Operation Fall Retrieve in order to minimize damage caused by ice and inclement weather, and because of reduced vessel traffic.
