a brisk rideof a few miles on the bicycle hastened the cure.Long rides were taken over smooth roadsbordered by fine old trees, under whose shadeNatalie halted for rest when the sun was warm. One day, barely a mile from home, whensearching for ferns, Natalie found some curiousyellow flowers, something like the lady-slip-pers Aunt Janet loved so well, but muchlarger. These are lovely, thought Natalie, and they will look pretty on the tea-table.So a bunch was gathered and placed in a littlebasket swung on the handle-bars. Over themshe laid some broad leaves to protect them fromthe sun. But the wind ! she must guard againstthat! Most of the homeward way was down-hill, and the leaves might be blown away. Ablack, heavy stone, as big as Natalies hand,was lying close by. Placing that carefully onthe stems of the flowers, she felt that the con-tents of the basket were secure. The homeward trip, being downhill, wasmade in a few minutes. She soon turned into 494 ALL THROUGH GRAVITATION. (April.
