Her thoughts were filled with SantaClaus, and the wonderful things he wouldbring her. But Maude was thinking more of SantaClaus himself than of his gifts, and a deter-mination to see the dear old man who lovedchildren so, and who had been so kind to her,filled her little head. And in its wake camethe determination to see him that very night.For, thought Maude, so kind an old gen-tleman will not really be displeased with mefor wanting to thank him for the toys he hasbrought. And she smiled to think how aston-ished papa would be in the morning when shetold him what Santa Claus had said. So she went into the library, where papa satsmoking, and waiting to bid his little girlgood night. Together they hung the Christ-mas stocking, and the little heart beat fast asshe pictured Santa Claus standing where herfather stood,
