Thenyou put ice or cold water on the back of theneck and over the bridge of the nose. It is agood thing, too, to take in long breaths, oneright after another, and you may try snuffingup a very little cold water. Mother always puts the big door-key on myneck, said John. That has the same effect as the ice, saidMr.Wilson. But there s another kind of hurtthat often befalls you boys, and I dare say youdont know that it is a hemorrhage. Mr. Wilson explained that whenever they hada bruise which turned black and blue, the tinyvessels underneath the skin had been injuredand the blood had leaked out. Well, I know what to do for that, saidJohn. Whenever I get a bruise, I clap on acloth wet with hot water or witch-hazel. And if you have no witch-hazel, you mightuse alcohol and water, half and half. Comeon now, boys ! Its time to get supper.
