English: Also called <a href="http://www.oldtowncemetery.co.uk/history/pyramid.html" rel="nofollow">Salem Rock.</a> Built in 1863 for wealthy Stirling businessman <a href="http://www.oldtowncemetery.co.uk/history/drummond.html" rel="nofollow">William Drummond</a> (whose family were publishers of Christian Tracts), as a monument to all those who had been killed in Scotland for religious or political freedom. Drummond also commissioned the <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dun_deagh/9925130086/">Martyr's Monument</a> in the same cemetery. |
