Description
English: Horned lizard.

Ascending from Schultz Pass through a peaceful ponderosa pine and fir forest, Sunset Trail drops into a cozy bowl between the Dry Lake Hills and Little Elden. It ascends to pop out on the ridge between Little Elden and Mt. Elden, providing some of the most fantastic views around Flagstaff. The trail winds along the ridge, heading towards Sunset Park and Elden Lookout Tower, with some of the best 360° views around. Aspens provide fall color along the trail, and are particularly spectacular on the eastern slopes of Mt. Elden.
In addition to the approximately five mile hike from the Sunset Trailhead at Schultz Pass, Sunset trail can be accessed near the top of Elden Lookout Road (FR 557). Look for a trail signs near and at the top of the road, which provide access to the trail for easy walks with great views, or shuttle hikes/rides from the top down Sunset, Heart, or Elden Lookout trails.
