The anteriortibial nerve reaches the artery somewhat farther downwards, coming from the outerside under the extensor communis digitorum muscle. The transverse branches of thenerve to the tibialis anticus are given off very high up. In the middle third. An incision is made 3 cm. (rather more than an inch)external to the anterior edge of the tibia along the palpable and often visible furrowat the outer border of the tibialis anticus muscle.
