English: Edinburgh Castle shines brightly for the Annual Royal Military Tattoo.
The Royal Navy has been going down a storm at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Aside from the regular attendance of the Massed Bands of HM Royal Marines, the crowds have been entertained by the Royal Navy Field Gun teams who perform their challenging race on a replica of the 18th century warship HMS Unicorn. In addition, the performance of a Counter Piracy Boarding Operation by sailors and marines from HMS Montrose has been a real crowd pleaser, with the audience cheering as the marines, drawn from Arbroath-based 45 Commando, abseil down the Castle’s Half Moon Battery before they storm onto the Esplanade to deal with the pirates. And while most of the mutinous dogs are only too happy to drop their weapons and co-operate in the face of such overwhelming force, there’s always one who fancies his chances and has to be dealt with robustly by the men with green berets. The theme of this years Tattoo, which runs from 5th to 27th August is ‘Of the Sea’, hence there is a significant involvement from the Royal Navy.
