graphy. Its use adds briUiancy to everynegative, and makes easy work of some of thedifficult phases of the art. You can work di-rectly against the sun at midday without gettinghaze or fog. Flashlights giving unusual effects are easy byits use. It is a wonder that its beneficial features are not moreappreciated. I suppose it is because those devised to date areso bulky and unportable. A few years ago I described in this Annual a shade madeout of a pocket drinking cup. I have heard of its adoptionfrom all parts of the country, and praised enough to warrantme publishing my latest wrinkle along the same lines. The one I have now perfected is simpler than the former;more easily made; handier to carry, and costs^well—itshouldnt cost anything. It is made of a piece of fairly stiff black leather, preferablysole leather and about 1/16 of an inch thick. Its shape as finished and ready for the pocket is as perFigure I, while in Figure II the shade is seen in actual posi-tion on the camera. 150
